Alex Nerguizian

Alex found a passion for teaching personal finance during his time as a personal banker for Bank of America in Woodland, CA .  He noticed that the ways in which he was teaching people to navigate the banking and credit systems were effective and clear. In a short time he developed a large following of clients.

Alex Nerguizian was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina where he lived for 13 years before permanently moving to the United States.  He graduated from the University of California at Davis in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Managerial Economics.

Alex worked for Bank of America for 7 years specializing in wealth management and credit. He began as a part-time teller while attending his last year in college and was promoted to a personal banker upon graduation . After 2 successful years, he went on to work for the Global Wealth & Investment Management division of the bank in San Francisco where he managed a portfolio of high net-worth clients as a licensed and trusted advisor.

While in college, Alex also got involved with the local community at a financial level. He started a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) clinic in Woodland with the help of the community-service organization Hermanos Macehual of U.C. Davis and offered free tax-preparation services to low-income families. After graduating from college, he trained other members of the organization to take his place in order to ensure the sustainability of the program. The clinic continues to help hundreds of families to date.

During his last year at the bank, Alex volunteered at Mission Asset Fund (MAF); a non-profit aimed at "expanding access to financial services, savings and investment opportunities for low-income and immigrant residents of the Mission District" in San Francisco.  There he taught a series of Financial Management Training courses covering subjects like budgeting & savings, credit, and basic investing.  He was also involved with the bank’s community development committee where he influenced decisions regarding funding of local community organizations.

In April of 2009 Alex left Bank of America and started his own consulting business as a financial educator.  He specializes in creating culturally relevant teaching material in order to better teach the financial concepts to his audience. He is also working on a curriculum to teach children the basics of money and finance.
